Water restored to Buckhead apartments, roads back open following hours without service, officials say

Fire officials were concerned that the road had buckled at the intersection where the water main broke.

ATLANTA — It was a Fourth of July nightmare for some residents in Buckhead after they went hours without running water.

The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management confirmed an 8-inch water main break at the intersection of Kingsboro Road and Lakeside Drive in Buckhead on Thursday. On Thursday evening, officials said crews had returned water service to all the apartments and fire hydrants impacted by the break.

Five apartment complexes and two hydrants were impacted by the water main break. During the over four-hour repairs, all five apartment complexes had no water service. The apartments that were impacted are listed below:

  • The Grandview - 3481 Lakeside Dr.
  • AMLI Flatiron - 3480 Lakeside Dr.
  • AMLI Lenox - 3478 Lakeside Dr.
  • The Villa at Buckhead Heights - 3435 Kingsboro Road
  • Kingsbury Luxury Apartments - 3443 Kingsboro Road

Fire officials were concerned that the road had buckled at the intersection where the water main broke. So, they had to fix the water pipes, level the road and complete the road work.

Officers had blocked off several intersections along Kingsboro Road NE in Atlanta's Buckhead Heights neighborhood, but roads are now open as of Friday morning.

This comes just a little over a month after widespread water main breaks caused massive issues in the City of Atlanta, enforcing a boil water advisory for nearly a week and causing major damage to nearby businesses. The water main breaks in late May and early June caused a state of emergency to be declared in the city.
