NEWNAN, Ga. — Editor's Note: This report previously stated that the incident happened at West Georgia Technical College. The correct location is the college's Central Education Center instructional site in Newnan, which is a separate entity from the Coweta Campus. This story below has been updated to reflect new information.
West Georgia Technical College's Central Education Center in Newnan is currently under a lockdown after false reports of a weapon at the instruction site Monday afternoon.
According to an updated news release from the City of Newnan, a student with a keychain in the shape of what appeared to be a small firearm alarmed some students who reported the object as an actual firearm. The reports caused a large police presence.
"All Persons involved in the incident have been located and the investigation will be completed," said City of Newnan in their updated release.
11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, where multiple law enforcement agencies were seen responding.
In an update, West Georgia Technical College Police Chief James Perry said they are working with Newnan Police and the Coweta County School system on the incident.
"All persons are safe at this time," Perry said. "The incident is ongoing and we will provide details as they become available."
The City of Newnan said that there was no threat to school, staff or students.
