A child has been rushed to the hospital after being shot in a west Atlanta neighborhood, Friday.
According to Atlanta Police spokesperson Jarius Daugherty Police were called to 1975 North Avenue around 9 p.m. on reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found a 6-year-old girl with what they originally thought was a gunshot wound to the torso. They have since confirmed it was actually a gunshot wound to the hand.
Daugherty said she was taken to Egleston Hospital and was conscious and alert. Investigators are, however, still working to figure out how she ended up being shot. They haven't released whether or not they have identified a suspect in the shooting.
Police said the mother was the one who called 911 and that other children were in the home when the little girl was struck by the bullet. They also found a gun at the location but won't say where or what kind.
This is a developing story, check back for updates as they become available.
