GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Three people were hospitalized after a serious head-on crash in Gainesville, but police said the driver allegedly behind it all tried to ditch the hospital while being treated for her injuries.
According to Gainesville Police, the accident happened on Thompson Bridge Road Monday afternoon.
Police said 32-year-old Rianne Rider was driving her Cadillac Escalade north on Thompson Bridge when she crossed into the southbound lanes. Police said she hit a Ford Expedition head-on.
The crash left the driver of the Expedition, 53-year-old Gabriel Orozco Suarez with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Suarez's passengers were also hurt - one left with serious injuries, the other with minor injuries.
All were taken to Northeast Georgia Medial Center for treatment.
A third vehicle - a Jeep - was traveling south and also crashed after initial impact, but that driver was not hurt.
Rider, meanwhile, was arrested for failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence, but police added additional charges of serious injury by vehicle and one count of obstruction because she allegedly tried to escape from custody while getting treated at the hospital.
She was moved to the Hall County Jail.
