FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A joyous occasion to celebrate love turned into tragedy when a Utah couple in town for a wedding was hit by a car, leading to one of their deaths on Friday.
Fiancés Leslie Schwendiman and Steve Olsen were walking on the sidewalk around 10 a.m. on Majors Road when they were hit from behind by a teen driver, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies added that the teen was driving northbound on Ronald Reagan Boulevard and attempting to make a left turn on Majors Road, but the driver could not make the turn safely.
Authorities believe speed played a factor. The car then went up on the sidewalk, hitting Schwendiman and Olsen.
Schwendiman later died from her injuries, and Olsen was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident.
