ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating after two woman were robbed at gunpoint minutes apart Tuesday night in Midtown.

Just after 9 p.m., officers were called after a woman said she was robbed at gunpoint at the intersection of 17th Street and Peachtree Street. The woman told police she was robbed after trying to start her car.

When it didn’t start, she became surrounded by a group of teenage boys, the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement. The teens then pulled out a gun and demanded she hand over her belongings, she told officers. The woman’s wallet and the phone was taken.

Police said the teens ran from that scene.

A little more than 20 minutes later, officers were called to Westminster Drive NE to investigate another armed robbery. The woman told police she was sitting in her car when a group of teens walked up to her with guns.

She told officers that the teens demanded her phone, keys and wallet. Once she gave them her vehicle, they sped off.

A short while later, the vehicle was spotted by Atlanta police officers.

When they tried to pull the car over, five teen boys got out and ran from police. Three of the five teens were taken into custody after they were found in a wooded area nearby.

Police also found a wallet, cell phone and driver’s license belonging to the first woman. All three teens were taken to Metro Youth Detention Center.

Police did not say if they were still looking for the two others.
