ATLANTA — Big changes are coming to the Woodruff Arts Center as it announced plans to add some new features to the center's campus in the coming years.

The Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta’s longtime hub for the visual and performance arts, today feels a bit disconnected from the vibrancy of Midtown’s Peachtree Street.

But, a $67 million project, unveiled this morning at the Midtown Alliance annual meeting, would transform the campus, home to the High Museum of Art, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Alliance Theatre.

It would turn an underused building along Peachtree into performance stages and play spaces for children and families. It would remake former offices into event space and revamp the entire campus into something more like a park, a gathering spot for Midtown, which is often referred to as the city's arts and cultural center.

“It’s all about access. It’s about bringing people together as a community,” Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center, said at the Midtown Alliance meeting, held at the Fox Theatre. The event highlighted the $8.4 billion worth of new development in Midtown since 2018, along with future efforts to reimagine Peachtree Street.
