ATLANTA — Editor's note: The video above is about whether you can stay anonymous after winning the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot.
Somebody in California won the $1.73 billion Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night, resetting the prize to $20 million for the next drawing.
The prize was the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history, just behind the record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot last November. In Georgia, six people took home a $50,000 prize, while hundreds of others came out of the drawing with a $100 or $200 hundred.
The winning numbers were 22, 24, 40, 52 and 64, with a red Powerball number of 10. The "Power Play" multiplier in effect was 2x.
When is the Powerball drawing?
The Powerball drawing occurs live at 10:59 p.m. Eastern every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
That means the next drawing will be Saturday, Oct. 14.

Over the past few years, huge lottery jackpots have become more common as lottery officials have changed the rules and ticket prices to boost top prizes.
Powerball's biggest change came in 2021 when officials decided to add a Monday drawing to its weekly lineup of Wednesday and Saturday evening drawings. At the time of the announcement, Powerball proclaimed the addition of the Monday drawing would lead to "larger, faster-growing jackpots."
