ALPHARETTA, Ga. — An Alpharetta officer thought he was getting ready to pull over a potential driver under the influence, but it turned out to be something much different.
According to Alpharetta Police, Officer Fields made the late-night traffic stop and discovered that the man behind the wheel had advanced Alzheimer's disease.
He had been driving around for hours trying to find his way back home. In fact, his residence was actually 50 miles away.
Police said Fields took the time to figure out where the man lived and helped him get back home safely to his family.
On Thursday, the police department posted a photo on Facebook saying Fields received a Chiefs coin for his act of kindness.
The photo has dozens of comments and shares.
