A road running alongside the River Arno in central Florence collapsed Wednesday morning, the BBC reported.
At least 20 parked cars fell into the 650-foot by 23-foot hole, near Ponte Vecchio, a famous covered bridge over the Arno. Some vehicles became nearly submerged in water.
The road was resting on a broken water pipe, thought to be the cause of the incident. After the collapse, water was cut off to part of the city.
Florence's Mayor Dario Nadella said no one was harmed during the collapse on Twitter.
