LeSean McCoy won't be charged in nightclub incident

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy will not be charged for his role in an altercation with two off-duty Philadelphia police officers inside a nightclub in February, Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams announced in a news conference on Monday.

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy will not be charged for his role in an altercation with two off-duty Philadelphia police officers inside a nightclub in February, Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams announced in a news conference on Monday.

Williams said there were conflicting accounts of what occurred and insufficient evidence to pursue assault charges against McCoy, his friends or the off-duty officers involved.

“I never imagined charges being brought against (McCoy) in this case,” Dennis Cogan, McCoy's attorney, told USA TODAY Sports. “I hoped the DA would be responsible and not be subject to political pressure.”

The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. ET on Feb. 8 at the Recess Lounge in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood. McCoy, former San Diego Chargers running back Curtis Brinkley and two other men got into a dispute that began over a bottle of champagne, The Philadelphia Daily News reported.

An official police statement obtained by USA TODAY Sports did not name McCoy or Brinkley, but says all four alleged suspects "are reported to be members of the National Football League."

Two off-duty officers were involved in the altercation, according to the Philadelphia police statement. One of the off-duty officers was punched and knocked to the ground where he was "punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times by all four suspects." That particular off-duty officer drove himself to a nearby hospital to be treated for a laceration to his right eye, broken nose, broken ribs and a sprained thumb.

The second off-duty officer and security guards tried to intervene and McCoy and his friends were ejected from the club. The off-duty officer was admitted to a hospital where was treated for a possible skull fracture, according to the statement. He also received eight stitches over his left eye.
