Flagstaff police officer on Wednesday morning shot and killed a man who police say was fleeing with a gun in a residential area, according to a Flagstaff Police Department statement.

Officers initially responded to a call near Historic Route 66 and Switzer Canyon Drive, about a mile east of downtown Flagstaff, where they found a man with an outstanding arrest warrant, police said. The man was seen with a gun and fled from officers, police said.

Officers pursued the man and attempted to take him into custody when an officer shot and killed him, police reported. Flagstaff police identified the man shot as Donald S. Myers, 32, of Flagstaff.

Myers had a lengthy past with the law, where he was found guilty on solicitation-third degree burglary in 2001 and found guilty on second degree burglary in 2002.

Police are reviewing footage from the officers' body cameras, and the investigation is ongoing.
