Four years ago, Mitt Romney accepted his party’s nomination at the Republican convention. This time around, he has no plans to attend.

According to a report in The Washington Post Thursday, an unnamed aide to the 2012 nominee said that "Governor Romney has no plans to attend convention."

The former Massachusetts governor has been extremely critical of Donald Trump’s candidacy, including a lengthy speech in March bashing the New York real estate mogul's fitness for office.

Romney becomes the latest former Republican Party standard-bearer who has indicated reluctance to rally around the party's presumptive nominee.

Former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush said they had no plans to endorse Trump, while 2008 nominee John McCain reportedly said at a private fundraiser that Trump's presence at the top of the ticket makes the Arizona senator's bid for re-election "the race of my life."
