DALLAS — SWAT team members swarmed a parking garage near the Dallas police headquarters Saturday night after reports of a "suspicious person" who was possibly armed and an earlier report that the department had received a threat that is being “taken seriously.”
Sources say a man dressed in black was seen in the parking garage.
After a "systematic search" of the police parking garage, the department tweeted that no suspect had been found. It was not clear if a suspect escaped and was still at large.
"Out of an abundance of caution, officers searched the garage to ensure reports of a suspicious person was thoroughly investigated," the department tweeted from its official Twitter account.
Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown tweeted: "Great job by our officers!"
The security threat comes two days after a gunman killed five officers in downtown Dallas as protesters demonstrated against recent police-involved shootings.
Police emphasized that no shots were fired during Saturday night's tense situation.
"There has been media reports of shots fired at police HQ, there has been NO shots fired. SWAT set off a device to enter a locked fence," the department tweeted.
The department also said that "Reports of HQ being on lockdown is incorrect,"
The situation began after police received an anonymous threat earlier Saturday.
"The Dallas Police Department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has taken precautionary measures to heightened security," Dallas Police said in a statement.
SWAT was deployed to the headquarters and armored SWAT vehicles could be seen around the perimeter of police headquarters.
Officers initiated a citywide roll call to make sure that all officers are OK.
