Dominic Toretto is about to meet Dame Helen Mirren.

That's right, Helen Mirren is joining the cast of Fast 8, the latest installment in the car flick franchise, due next spring.

She confirmed her casting to Elle.

She's coming off a slightly more Mirren movie, April's Eye in the Sky, which asks moral questions about drone warfare.

"I like to be serious," she told the magazine. "Having said that, I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that's for the fun of it."

She had previously said she wanted to be part of the franchise when she appeared on the BBC's Graham Norton Show in April. Her rationale? "Things explode all around you. That with cars would be my dream come true."

In fact, the BBC bragged about planting the seed for her casting on Facebook: "We're not taking credit for this, but we're totally taking credit for this."

Mirren said she agreed to be in the movie if she's actually allowed to drive in it. "We'll see how it transpires," she says. Unfortunately, she didn't drop any hints about her character.

She'll be joining another franchise newcomer, fellow Oscar winner Charlize Theron.

She does have enough car cred to have made it on Top Gear.  The rest of the Fast & Furious cast can't make that claim.
