Weekly NBA rookie rankings: Josh Richardson on the rise

Josh Richardson has continued to impress in his increased role for the Miami Heat, while the rest of the rankings haven't seen much movement since last week.

Check out the rest of our weekly rookie rankings below, looking at the ever-changing list of the NBA's newcomers as we near the final stretch of the season.

(Statistics from March 16 to March 22)

1. Karl-Anthony Towns

Last week's rank: No. 1

Towns put together yet another week of eye-opening play, with back-to-back 20-plus point, 10-plus rebound performances. At this point, he could sit on the bench the rest of the season and still be crowned Rookie of the Year ... he has been that good.

Weekly statistics - Points: 24.7, rebounds: 10.7, assists: 2.3, blocks: 1.0, field goal percentage: 59.2%, games played: 3, minutes: 39.4

Season statistics - Points: 18.0, rebounds: 10.3, assists: 1.7, blocks: 1.7, field goal percentage: 54.7%, player efficiency rating: 22.87, minutes: 31.5

2. Kristaps Porzingis

Last week's rank: No. 2

Porzingis recovered from his short-lived rookie slump this week, posting a 20 point, seven rebound performance on Saturday against Washington, followed by a 13 point, seven rebound outing against Sacramento the next night. He has been just behind Towns in the rookie rankings for the majority of the season, and should finish in that same spot in the Rookie of the Year voting.

Weekly statistics - Points: 11.7, rebounds: 7.0, assists: 2.3, blocks: 2.0, field goal percentage: 33.3%, games played: 3, minutes: 33.2

Season statistics - Points: 13.9, rebounds: 7.2, assists: 1.3, blocks: 1.9, field goal percentage: 41.5%, player efficiency rating: 17.54, minutes: 28.0

3. Devin Booker

Last week's rank: No. 3

Despite his atrocious shooting percentage this week, Booker has been a pleasant surprise for the majority of his rookie season, going far beyond his preseason expectations. He has all the makings of a solid NBA shooting guard, and has been one of the only bright spots for an otherwise dull Phoenix Suns team this season.

Weekly statistics - Points: 15.3, rebounds: 4.0, assists: 4.0, steals: 1.0, field goal percentage: 28.9%, games played: 3, minutes: 33.4

Season statistics - Points: 12.5, rebounds: 2.3, assists: 2.4, steals: 0.5, field goal percentage: 42.2%, player efficiency rating: 12.01, minutes: 26.2%

4. D'Angelo Russell

Last week's rank: No. 4

Russell remained in the starting lineup for the lowly Los Angeles Lakers this week, but his minutes — which have fluctuated all season — took a dip. He suffered a shin bruise in Tuesday's win against the Memphis Grizzlies, and is listed questionable for Wednesday's tilt with Phoenix.

Weekly statistics - Points: 10.0, assists: 2.0, rebounds: 2.5, steals: 0.5, field goal percentage: 35.0%, games played: 2, minutes: 21.5

Season statistics - Points: 13.3, assists: 3.5, rebounds: 3.4, steals: 1.2, field goal percentage: 42.3%, player efficiency rating: 14.50, minutes: 27.6

5. Myles Turner

Last week's rank: No. 6

Similar to Booker in Phoenix, Turner has exceeded preseason expectations and has emerged as an important piece to his team's puzzle. Turner, however, is part of a much less complicated puzzle, as the Indiana Pacers sit in seventh place in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race.

Weekly statistics - Points: 9.7, rebounds: 8.0, assists: 1.0, blocks: 1.7, field goal percentage: 50.0%, games played: 3, minutes: 25.1

Season statistics - Points: 10.5, rebounds: 5.3, assists: 0.5, blocks: 1.5, field goal percentage: 50.2%, player efficiency rating: 15.96, minutes: 22.8

6. Nikola Jokic

Last week's rank: No. 5

Jusuf Nurkic — the other young, foreign big man suiting up for Denver — returned to the court this week after being in and out of the lineup since the All-Star break, but Jokic didn't suffer much in terms of production or minutes compared to recent weeks. The next step for the Nuggets: figuring out how to effectively play them both at the same time.

Weekly statistics - Points: 10.0, rebounds: 7.7, assists: 3.0, blocks: 0.7, field goal percentage: 37.1%, games played: 3, minutes: 23.2

Season statistics - Points: 10.0, rebounds: 6.5, assists: 2.2, blocks: 0.6, field goal percentage: 51.1%, player efficiency rating: 21.80, minutes: 20.8

7. Josh Richardson

Last week's rank: No. 10

Richardson put together another week of top-notch offensive production for Miami, once again leading all rookies (six or more field goal attempt per game) in field goal percentage while trailing Towns and Booker in points per game. The Heat now have two rookies who can contribute on any given night in a multitude of ways, and in third place, just a half game ahead of the cluster in the middle of the Eastern Conference race, this is their time to shine.

Weekly statistics - Points: 14.3, rebounds: 2.3, assists: 1.0, steals: 0.3, field goal percentage: 61.5%, games played: 3, minutes: 27.0

Season statistics - Points: 5.6, reboiunds: 1.7, assists: 1.1, steals: 0.7, field goal percentage: 46.5%, player efficiency rating: 11.43, minutes: 17.9

8. Emmanuel Mudiay

Last week's rank: No. 7

Mudiay looked to be taking a step in the right direction in terms of shooting efficiency (51.7% from the field last week), but instead took a step back, making just eight of his 37 shot attempts in three games this week.

Weekly statistics - Points: 9.3, assists: 3.0, rebounds: 4.0, steals: 0.7, field goal percentage: 21.6%, games played: 3, minutes: 28.0

Season statistics - Points: 12.1, assists: 5.6, rebounds: 3.3, steals: 1.0, field goal percentage: 35.2%, player efficiency rating: 9.41, minutes: 30.2

9. Justise Winslow

Last week's rank: No. 8

Winslow also had an off week scoring, totaling 15 points in three games. Nevertheless, he continues to play well beyond his years, and most importantly, he understands the process. On Monday, the day after he shot just two for eight from the floor, he told the Palm Beach Post, "It's about staying the course and keeping working hard and believing in yourself."

Weekly statistics - Points: 5.0, rebounds: 4.0, assists: 3.3, steals: 1.0, field goal percentage: 43.8%, games played: 3, minutes: 31.1

Season statistics - Points: 6.4, rebounds: 5.2, assists: 1.5, steals: 0.9, field goal percentage: 43.4%, player efficiency rating: 8.48, minutes: 28.7%

10. Bobby Portis

Last week's rank: NR

Portis put together a 12 point, 14 rebound performance in 28 minutes in a win against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, but only saw 20 minutes on the floor in the next game, followed by 15 minutes on Monday. While his work ethic and occasional spurts of greatness make him a valuable asset for Chicago, he too understands the process, and told the Chicago Tribune, "I'm a team-first guy. Of course I want to play, but I want to win. That's who I am."

Weekly statistics - Points: 8.8, rebounds: 7.5, assists: 1.8, blocks: 1.0, field goal percentage: 40.5%, games played: 4, minutes: 21.8

Season statistics - Points: 7.2, rebounds: 5.3, assists: 0.8, blocks: 0.4, field goal percentage: 43.3%, player efficiency rating: 13.95, minutes: 17.7
