DENVER — A man has been arrested for assault after he sprayed numerous Denver Police officers with insecticide and assaulted one with make-shift nunchucks, according to a probable cause statement for his arrest from the Denver Police Department (DPD).
Jesus Moreno-Perez, 25, was arrested for assault on a police officer and assault for an earlier incident involving his brother.
Denver Police on Sunday evening said in a tweet that five officers were transported to the hospital following the incident. A sixth officer was exposed but was not taken to the hospital, a spokesperson with DPD said.
The officers responded to the 4500 block of Sable Boulevard around 8 p.m. in an attempt to pick up Moreno-Perez, who was wanted in connection with a family disturbance that happened earlier in the day on Sunday.
Moreno-Perez had used furniture to block the front door, according to the probable cause (PC) statement. When officers kicked in that door, Moreno-Perez "opened up a can of Raid bug fogger into the faces officers", the PC statement says.
He then retreated further back into the home, according to the document. Officers followed him, and then Moreno-Perez threw the can of bug spray at officers who were in a back hallway, the PC statement says.
One officer deployed his Taser, but it failed, according to the document.
Moreno-Perez then entered a back bedroom where he used a second Raid bug fogger on the officers, the PC statement says. He also used a pair of makeshift nunchucks to hit an officer in the head, according to the PC statement.
Officers finally managed to restrain Moreno-Perez in the back bedroom and discovered two long knives concealed in sleeves, the PC statement says. While being restrained, the PC statement says he continued to kick and spit at officers.
All the officers were treated and released from the hospital, a spokesperson for DPD said.
