'Where’s the justice?': Family mourns mom of 2 found dead at ex's home

Andrea Neyra, 37, was found dead inside her ex-boyfriend's home on Oct. 19.

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. — The Connecticut State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 37-year-old mother of two, who was found dead inside her ex-boyfriend’s home in Middlefield.

Andrea Neyra's family is convinced she was murdered, but the Connecticut State Police have stopped short of calling her death a murder. The department hasn't released much information about Andrea Neyra’s death, and her family said the police haven't told them much either. That’s why her family is speaking out and calling for justice.

“Where’s the justice? Why wasn’t he arrested? If you find a dead body in the house,” asked Yair Davila, Andrea Neyra’s son.

Davila was celebrating his 18th birthday on Oct. 19. He expected his Mom to call and wish him well, but the phone never rang.

“We just kept calling her for hours and hours,” recalled Luis Neyra, Andrea’s brother. The family of Andrea Neyra tried accessing her location on her cell phone, but they say someone turned off the GPS function.

“Once they got access to the house they found my sister’s body on the floor dead,” said Luis.

Police found Andrea Neyra’s body inside her ex-boyfriend’s house in Middlefield, while he was allegedly home.

State police told FOX61, ”Major Crimes Detectives were contacted to assume the investigation. The investigation is active and ongoing.”

Atty. Dennis Bradley is representing the family of Andrea Neyra. He said, “The fact that this person is still out there. The fact that we have no real information in terms of what role he played in this process creates a degree of frustration among us all.”

With no answers, the family is left to grieve the loss of a beautiful soul.

"A very bright light...I would rather say snuffed. That light was snuffed out," remarked Andrea’s other brother, Jorge Azana.

“Physically she was very beautiful but also her heart. You could see it in her eyes,” said sister-in-law Andrea Garoz.

Andrea Neyra was a mother of two who immigrated to the United States from Peru in 2003, when she was 15, in search of a better life.

“Everywhere she would go she would make everybody smile. She was the glue of the family,” recalled Luis.

Her family noted her work ethic and how she often held down three jobs.

“To provide for the clothes on my back, the roof over my head, my shoes. Everything I ever wanted she would give it to me,” recalled her son, Yair.

According to the family, Andrea’s ex-boyfriend was briefly detained but never arrested. State police told FOX61 they will post further updates to this case as more information becomes available.
