'Lauren was a leader' | NC police officer dies of cancer

Lauren Galloway served with the Tega Cay Police Department for 12 years.

TEGA CAY, S.C. — The Tega Cay community is mourning the loss of a police officer described as "a leader, a mentor, and a provider."

Lauren Galloway, a lieutenant with the Tega Cay Police Department, died after battling cancer. The department posted about Galloway's passing on Sunday.

Galloway was a 12-year veteran of the department. Officials described this as one of the most difficult chapters in the department's history.

"Lauren was a leader, a mentor, and a provider to our department," the department posted on social media. "She was so kind to everyone and served the citizens of Tega Cay selflessly."

The department noted that anyone who wants to support Galloway's family can leave flowers or memorials at the rock in front of the Tega Cay Police Department on Tega Cay Drive.

Service arrangements will be announced at a later date by the department.
