WASHINGTON — Olivia and Noah are still the No. 1 baby names of 2024, according to a new report.
BabyCenter, which provides information to expecting and new parents, recently unveiled its list of 2024's most popular baby names. This year also marks the group's 20th year of reporting on baby name trends nationwide.
While the list isn't the official one put out annually from the Social Security Administration — that one will be released sometime next year — it's one of the first looks parents can get at emerging trends in what people are naming their kids. The report is based on 500,000 babies born in 2024, out of the estimated 3.66 million born each year in the U.S.
The 2024 BabyCenter list includes many of the names we've seen in recent years, but also has a few noteworthy additions. French names, for example, have gained in popularity since the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the group said.
Almost every top 10 name from BabyCenter's 2023 list is back for 2024, with some key exceptions. Ellie jumped into the group's top 10 for the first time ever at No. 9, bumping Evelyn down to 11. Plus, Asher is back in the boys' top names, while Luca is out at No. 12.
The ever-popular name Sarah is out of the top 100 in the newest ranking, clocking in at No. 108.
And the Drake/Kendrick Lamar beef from earlier this year seems to be influencing parents as well. Parents are dropping the name Drake in favor of Kendrick, in yet another sign of who won that diss battle.
Many of the names in BabyCenter's 2024 lists are similar to those released by the SSA for 2023. Both lists crowned Olivia the No. 1 girl name, while BabyCenter had Noah at No. 1 and SSA had Liam in the top spot.
