Trooper Wright is a junior at Morehead Senior High School. He is a football captain and a part of FCA. An ATV accident resulted in the amputation of his left arm.

EDEN, N.C. — A Morehead High School student was injured in an ATV accident that led to the amputation of one of his arms.

The accident happened around Monday at 2 p.m. at his home in Eden.

Trooper Wright is a junior and a captain on the football team at Morehead High.

His family said his left arm was amputated following the ATV accident and that he still has two more surgeries to go.

Wright is also head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the school and is heavily involved at his church, Osborne Baptist Church in Eden.

WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman spoke with Wright's head football coach, Coach Bobby Martin, who couldn't say enough about the young man.

"He’s a football player, he’s a basketball player. He’s like a son. He’s a friend to anybody in the school, he’s a friend to everybody. He don’t have any enemies. Anybody he can help, he’s gonna help. He loves God. He wears it on his shirt everyday. He just, he has the heart to love people," Martin said.

"He’s gonna need some prayers, we’re gonna be doing that. He’s got a great testimony to share, he’s already changing lives in the hospital last night, nurses are crying, people are crying, he’s just talking about Jesus and the goodness of God. Trooper… he’s a trooper. I don’t know if they knew what they was doing when they named him but… he’s a trooper," Martin continued.

In a statement, Rockingham County Schools said:

Rockingham County Schools was informed of an accident involving a student from Morehead High School yesterday afternoon. Morehead’s principal and assistant principal immediately extended themselves to the family asking if there was anything they could do to support them and their son. RCS does have counselors and other crisis team members available should they be necessary for students and staff to talk to. We extend our sincerest prayers to the student and the family during his recovery. We recognize that this will be a difficult time mentally, physically and emotionally for the student and his family. The RCS family will be there to provide support if need be.
