FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- A bad costume choice led to bomb squad being called into action at a North Carolina U.S. Army base, authorities said Saturday.

Fort Bragg officials issues a statement through social media, Saturday that, on Friday night, a soldier attempted to enter the Army base dressed as a suicide bomber.

The costume, believed to be a Halloween outfit, was complete with a simulated explosive vest.

The base's explosive ordinance disposal team was quickly called to clear the scene, authorities said, and the gate was temporarily closed.

The incident also led to a stern warning from the senior commander of the base that they should not wear costumes of this sort off base.

The garrison commander also made clear in a statement that costumes of this sort would not be allowed and that what soldiers and civilians wear on base should be "appropriate in dress and tasteful."

The soldier's name has not been released.

The base is the home of The Airborne and Special Operations Forces.
