BREMAN, Ga. — A man was killed, Sunday night, after being hit by an Amtrak train while walking on the tracks, officials say.

According to the Breman Police Chief Keith Pesnell, the man may have been walking on the tracks with ear buds in as the train approached.

Pesnell said the train blared its horn as it approached, but the man didn't respond. The train then struck the man.

Police said the Crescent train was headed northeast, from New Orleans to New York, and had 72 passengers on it. No people aboard the train were hurt.

Amtrak officials said the train was delayed two hours. Officials have since cleared the scene, but are still investigating. The victim's identity has not been released at this time.

11Alive reached out to Amtrak for a statement on the situation. They confirmed the incident, adding "this is an opportunity to remind the public about the importance of exercising caution around railroad tracks and crossings. Amtrak continues to work closely with Operation Lifesaver (OLI) to communicate the dangers of grade crossings."

According to Amtrak, about 2,000 people are killed or injured in trespassing incident nationwide.
