Police search for hit-and-run driver who left motorcyclist in a coma

Police need the public's help in trying to find the driver.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for the driver responsible for seriously injuring a motorcyclist and leaving him for dead at the end of last month.

On March 31, police responded to Dickens Road at Pepperwood Trail near Lilburn after getting a call of an accident involving a motorcycle.

When officers got there, they found Bryan Sanchez seriously injured and unconscious. Police said it appears he had hit the back of another car and had been thrown from his bike in the process.

However, the driver of the other car was gone by the time police got on scene. Investigators said speed may have been a factor.

First responders took Sanchez to Gwinnett Medical Center - Lawrenceville, where family said he's been in a coma ever since.

During their initial investigation, police found multiple pieces of a tail light and window glass near the motorcycle. They were able to connect it to a 2009 to 2015 Honda Pilot. The car's color is unknown.

Now, police need the public's help in trying to find the driver of that Honda. They said it would be missing the driver side tail light and will have either a broken rear windshield or broken rear quarter window. They said it's also possible that a local mechanic may have had some interaction with the driver of the Honda.

They are asking anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300.

11Alive's Ron Jones spoke to Sanchez's mother Alba Martinez Thursday night, who told him she feels helpless, especially after hearing the diagnosis from doctors.

"He's in coma and they don't think he going to survive," she told 11Alive. "He no wake up, he no move anything because they say all the injury was in his head. All head."

Angel Marquez, Sanchez's uncle is close to his nephew and said he wants the driver, or a witness, to come forward and do the right thing.

"I hope that whoever responsible come forward," Marquez said. "This is not a joke a human being a young guy you know."
