Van type used in alleged kidnapping attempt

ATLANTA — HAPEVILLE, Ga. -- Police in Hapeville are on the lookout for a white cargo van allegedly driven by men trying to approach children.

Police said that they received a report of a van heading west on Moreland Way near Old Jonesboro Road. They were told that the van passed two children as they walked home from school.  The children said the van backed up toward them and the driver allegedly got out and chased after one of the kids, a girl, a few feet.

The man then got back in the van and left the area. The van itself allegedly had some sort of cage or fence behind the driver's seat.

Based on the description the kids gave, police are looking for a black man who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 175 pounds. At the time he was wearing a blue-green baseball cap with sunglasses sitting on top of it.

The kids also described a passenger with “fuzzy hair as if he wore a ball cap all the time.” He was also described as a black man but had a darker complexion.

Police advised anyone who sees a van matching the above description or notices suspicious activity in Hapeville to call police. They’ve also released a photo of a van similar to the one described by the children.
