ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens discussed his recent conversation with President Biden and more during a conversation on MSNBC's Morning Joe Wednesday morning.

Dickens noted that his call with Biden, which featured numerous other mayors from across the country, was an overall positive experience.

The Atlanta mayor said the current president seemed "fired up" and "ready to defeat Donald Trump" -- offering a contrast to the contentious debate about Biden staying in the race following his public performance during last month's debate in Atlanta.

Dickens noted a majority of the conversation had to deal with how the White House can provide support to cities and local leaders.

He also expressed worry that should Trump take office next year, that kind of direct access could go away due to a perceived lack of interest in working with Democratic cities.

In addition, Dickens was asked about comments former President Trump has made about the City of Atlanta. The mayor said, "Donald Trump has already talked negatively about Atlanta at every chance he can get, and that's primarily because he was arrested here and booked."

Finally, Dickens was asked about immigration, whether it came up during the call, and what impact it's having on Atlanta.

Dickens replied that immigration was not a topic mayors on the call had questions about; instead, he focused on topics like gun violence and the economy, which he argued were "more germane to cities."

The Atlanta mayor concluded by saying the city has already received funds from the federal government to help with immigration and that has been enough with the city not seeing as large of an influx as other places.
