Rev. Al Sharpton mentions Georgia in DNC remarks, says Trump 'tried to cook up' votes

Sharpton not only criticized former President Donald Trump but also focused on the differences he's seen between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump.

CHICAGO — Renowned civil rights activist Al Sharpton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night and brought up an infamous phone call in political history.

During the DNC, Rev. Sharpton not only criticized former President Donald Trump but also focused on the differences he's seen between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump.

"I see one candidate who wants to protect the right to vote while the other has tried to cook up 11,000 votes in Georgia," Sharpton said.

He's referencing a phone call where Trump spoke to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger during the 2020 election. In a recording, the former president wanted Raffensperger to "recalculate" the Georgia vote count because "I just want to find 11,780 votes," Trump said.

"There's no way I lost Georgia," Trump said on the recording. "There's no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes."

Raffensperger then told the then-president that the data he had was wrong.

But it was that same phone call that eventually led to a history-making indictment that charged Trump and other co-defendants in a RICO case accusing them of unlawfully interfering with the 2020 presidential election.

Here's where that case stands today.
