Raffensperger certifies Georgia's 2024 election results

The next step is for Gov. Brian Kemp to certify President-elect Donald Trump's slate of electors.

ATLANTA — Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger certified the state's 2024 election results on Friday, he said in a social media post.

"The people of Georgia have spoken, and I am proud to certify the results of Georgia’s 2024 Presidential Election this morning," Sec. Raffensperger posted on X. "Congratulations to President-Elect Donald J. Trump!"

Friday was the deadline for the secretary to certify the 2024 results. Certification followed a risk-limiting audit hand-count process of more than 700,000 ballots that confirmed the result.

The next step is for Gov. Brian Kemp to certify the Electoral College slate of voters for President-elect Trump; his deadline to do so is tomorrow, Nov. 23.

After that, the federally-mandated day for Electoral College electors to meet -- in Georgia, this is generally done at the Capitol Building in Atlanta -- is the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December. That is December 17 this year.

Gabriel Sterling, the chief operating officer in the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, also posted about the certification on Friday.

"This morning @GaSecofState Raffensperger certified the results of GA’s 2024 General Election. Our office is proud of the work of our elections division & counties for running a great, fair, & accurate election. The presidential certification will now be transmitted to @GovKemp," Sterling wrote.
