GEORGIA, — Several candidates secured their spots for November’s general election after winning their runoff races Tuesday night in Georgia. 

These intense competition and decisive victories set the stage for the 2024 fall election; here's what stuck out in some of the key races on June 18. Read through our live blog from election night here. 

District 3: Brian Jack vs. Mike Dugan

Former Trump White House adviser Brian Jack won the Republican nomination for Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District, defeating Georgia State Senate majority leader Mike Dugan with nearly 63% of the vote. Jack's victory was bolstered by Trump's endorsement, which he acknowledged as crucial to his success. 

Jack now prepares to face Democrat Mara Keller in November, where he is expected to have a strong advantage.

District 14: Sean Harris vs. Clarence Blaylock

In Georgia’s 14th District, Sean Harris triumphed over Clarence Blaylock with almost 70% of the vote. This victory is interesting, as Blaylock had a slight lead in the initial primary four weeks ago.

Harris will go up against incumbent Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene in November in a district where Greene is heavily favored.

Dekalb County CEO: Lorraine Cochran-Johnson

Lorraine Cochran-Johnson made history by becoming the first Black woman elected as CEO of Dekalb County. She won against Larry Johnson and expressed her readiness to start her duties. Cochran-Johnson emphasized her commitment to moving Dekalb County forward and said she is already working on her transition team.

Clayton County Sheriff: Levon Allen

Levon Allen narrowly defeated Clayton County Commission Chair Jeff Turner by about 1,500 votes to secure his position as Clayton County Sheriff. Allen, who had emphasized the importance of voter turnout, celebrated his win alongside his wife, who also won the District 3 chair on the Clayton County Commission. He highlighted the support he received from metro sheriff's offices and vowed to continue his work in the county.
