Polls open at 7 a.m.; Here's what you need to know for voting in person

ATLANTA — Peach State voters will march to the polls again on Tuesday for Georgia's Primary Runoff Election, which will set the stage for the November general election.

The runoff follows the May primary election, where no candidate secured a majority vote in several key races. More information on who is on the ballot is available here

Polls are set to open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., and voters should be prepared before heading out to participate in democracy. Here's what you need to know for voting in person:

Voting in Person on Election Day

Get Prepared:

  • Register to Vote: Ensure your voter registration is active by checking with the Secretary of State’s Office. Eligible Georgians can register through the Secretary of State’s website.
  • Valid Photo ID: Bring a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or U.S. passport. A free voter ID card is also available at any County Board of Registrar's Office.
  • Polling Location: Your designated polling place is on your voter registration card or on the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.

At the Polls:

  • Polling Hours: Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to cast your ballot.
  • Photo ID Requirement: Show your photo ID to a poll worker who will verify your registration and issue you a ballot.
  • Provisional Ballots: If you do not meet all requirements, you may request a provisional ballot. Ensure eligibility issues are resolved within three days after Election Day.

Report Issues:

  • Contact: For any problems at the polls, contact your County Board of Registrar's Office or the Georgia Secretary of State at 404-656-2871 (metro Atlanta) or 877-725-9797 (elsewhere in Georgia). Complaints can also be submitted online to the Secretary of State Elections Division.

Other Voting Options

Voters who prefer not to vote in person on Election Day can opt for absentee ballots or early voting. Military and overseas voters have the option to vote by absentee ballot as well.
