President Donald Trump has sounded off about Georgia's secretary of state race.
The president tweeted his support of Republican Brad Raffensperger Monday afternoon, saying (across two tweets), "Brad Raffensperger will be a fantastic Secretary of State for Georgia - will work closely with @BrianKempGA. It is really important that you get out and vote for Brad - early voting starts today, election is on December 4th. @VoteBradRaff is tough on Crime and Borders, Loves our Military and Vets. He will be great for jobs!"
Raffensberger faces Democratic challenger John Barrow in the Dec. 4 runoff. It's one of two statewide races that will be decided. Early voting began on Monday.
It's far from the first time that Trump has gotten involved in Georgia politics. Last year, he expressed his support for Republican Karen Handel in her race for the Sixth Congressional District against Jon Ossoff. He also endorsed then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp in the crowded Republican primary and then again endorsed Kemp in the general election. In the days before the November election, Trump made a campaign stop in Macon, Ga. for Kemp.
Kemp was declared the winner of the Georgia gubernatorial election, but not before more than a week of uncertainly. In her speech acknowledging Kemp's win, Democrat Stacey Abrams had harsh words for Kemp's performance as secretary of state. She vowed to work to support Barrow in the race.
Both candidates for the office talked to 11Alive about how they'd improve the elections process:
