Organizations band together to galvanize voters in metro Atlanta by holding festival

Organizers hosted a festival aimed at educating and enrolling voters

ATLANTA — Several organizations are banding together to galvanize voters in metro Atlanta by hosting a festival aimed at educating potential voters to participate in the upcoming election.

“We came down here to have a good time, show off our brand and also get people registered to vote," said vendors Kevin and Shandra Todd of A Slice of Paradise.

That’s the goal of the YELLE For The Culture X HIP HOP TO VOTE festival.

The event featured music and art vendors -- but, most importantly, information about how and when to vote.

Organizer Gerald Griggs of the NAACP said the party atmosphere is perfect for educating the public.

“We wanted to mobilize people to get ready for the upcoming election. But we wanted to come to the Underground to have a block party to make sure people understand the importance of voting in the upcoming election," Griggs said.

The Voter Fest ran from noon until 7 p.m. at the Underground on Pryor Streeton Saturday. Hundreds were expected to come out.

Vendor Shaun Dogue hoped the event would bring in new customers and ensure that everyone who is eligible votes.

“I’m already a voter, but I wanted to come and support and making sure that people coming to vote because this is definitely a big election coming up right now," Dogue said.
