'We're going to be here for another 4 years' | DA Fani Willis comments during final hours of Georgia Primary Election Day

While campaigning in Atlanta, she reminded voters of her track record.

ATLANTA — Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis says she's not done putting in the work - declaring that "we're going to be here for another four years."

Her comments come as she was waving from the sidewalk in Atlanta on Georgia's Primary Election Day, holding a campaign sign as cars drove by.

Willis has made waves more notably for being the "RICO district attorney," roping in Atlanta rapper Young Thug and former President Donald Trump into two different cases after making a name for herself in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating case.

Speaking on her re-election bid Tuesday, she didn't address her high-profile cases and focused instead on her office's track record.

"When we came here, there was a gang war," she said. "And we have tackled it, and we've seen a lot of success."

Rattling off data, she said that the crime and homicide rate is down by around 25%, emphasizing that her focus on public safety is evident.

"I'm a homicide prosecutor, so I always highlight the fact that homicides are down, but we've also done it not just by locking folks up but by providing programs," she said. "That balanced approach is working; we're going to continue with it, and it's only going to get better from here."

Highlighting that she didn't do it alone - she mentioned how she hired a "dream team" amid a massive backlog in the office.

"The backlog, if you remember when we got here, was 18,000 unindicted cases going back seven years. It doesn't exist anymore," she said. "And we're still fighting. And we have to keep the resources. This fighting this upcoming year is to keep the employees that we fought to have."

Willis has a few Election Days to win before she can safely say she and her team can stay in the office. She faces Democratic challenger Christian Wise Smith. After the primary, and if no run-off election follows, one will face off with Republican hopeful Courtney Kramer.

When asked about the scrutiny she's faced while in office and the spotlight put on her personal life, Willis said she's made of thick skin.

"I'm a fighter," she said. "In the famous words of the poet, Jay-Z, I be brushin' my shoulders off, and we goin' to keep it goin'."
