ATLANTA -- Lucy McBath, whose son was shot and killed at a Jacksonville, Fla., gas station by a man objecting to the loud music he was playing in his car, will face the woman who won the nation's most expensive congressional campaign in history in 2017.

McBath won a Democrat runoff against Kevin Abel on Tuesday night. She will face U.S. Rep. Karen Handel in metro Atlanta's 6th district this fall.

McBath is the mother of Jordan Davis, who was killed in 2012 during an encounter with Michael Dunn.

Dunn used Florida’s stand-your-ground law as his defense. He was not found guilty of murder in his first trial. In an October 2014 retrial, Dunn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in 2017 in a special election to replace Tom Price, who was appointed as President Donald Trump's secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Price served only a few months in the position, becoming the first member of the Trump cabinet to resign.
