Here are the results for the Georgia June 18 congressional runoff audits

The Risk-Limiting Audit focused on the Democratic District 2, Republican District 3 and Democratic District 14 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

GEORGIA, USA — Georgia's Secretary of State Office revealed the results of the June 18 congressional runoff audits.

The Risk-Limiting Audit focused on the Republican District 2, Republican District 3 and Democratic District 14 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Officials said the audit started on Wednesday. It included at least 147 batches of ballets, and 54 counties participated in the voting process.

What is a risk-limiting audit?

According to Georgia law, risk-limiting audits are post-selection audits that use statistical methods and calculations to limit acceptable levels of a possible incorrect outcome.

Georgia law also only allows for a percentage of no greater than 10% for a risk limit, which is the probability of an incorrect outcome. In this case, the audit was conducted with a 5% risk limit.

The purpose of a risk-limiting audit is to sample random batches of ballots, count them by hand, and see if the results mostly align with the official machine-count election results.

That makes it different from a recount in very important ways.

The results

  • Georgia Democratic U.S. House of Representatives District 14: SOS found no difference between the audit count and machine count.
  • Georgia Republican U.S. House of Representatives District 3: The SOS found a slight difference of 1 extra ballot in this race, within the margin of error and could be human error, the office said in a news release.
  • Georgia Republican U.S. House of Representatives District 2: Officials found a difference of 19 extra ballots, which led to an investigation into what happened. The SOS determined that some test ballots mixed in with voted ballots caused the issue. Most test ballots should be marked, but these were not.
