VALDOSTA, Ga. — Former President Donald Trump is coming to Valdosta on Monday to receive a briefing on the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the area, his campaign said.

Trump will give his remarks at 2 p.m. on Monday at Chez What Furniture Store, 204 S Ashley St, Valdosta.

Helene landed in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane late Thursday night before it came through the state on Friday morning. By 5 a.m., it had weakened into a tropical storm in Georgia.

Gov. Brian Kemp has already toured the city, which was one of the hardest-hit areas of the state.

After touring the damage from the sky, the governor spoke from the Lowndes County Emergency Management Center on Saturday, describing how Hurricane Helene "spared no one" from a statewide perspective.

Kemp said there are now 17 fatalities across the state, illustrating the heavy toll of Helene. Kemp quoted one state official who described how the storms "are taking the soul out of me."

"And I know that's how people are feeling down here," Kemp added, acknowledging another heavy hit for Valdosta -- which has suffered its fair share of weather-related tragedies in the past, including 2018's Hurricane Michael.

Kemp said Helene's impact on Georgia was apparent immediately and unlike any other storm the state has faced: "It literally look at look like a 250-mile tornado hit and it was a hurricane."

This will be Trump's second visit to the Peach State in less than a week. He was in Savannah this past Tuesday to campaign and deliver remarks about a plan to lower taxes for American business owners. The former president has made multiple visits over the last few months as he and Vice President Kamala Harris race to win the White House.
