Is Tom Price making a comeback?

Price spent nearly $20,000 in polling.

ATLANTA — He resigned amid scandal, but former Georgia congressman and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price may be making a comeback.

New filings with the Federal Elections Commission shows Price's campaign account, which he never shut down, spent $19,500 in January for "polling services."

Is Price jumping back into the political arena?

Price was considered by many to be an obvious choice for President Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary. While in Congress representing Georgia's Sixth Congressional District, Price was one of the most vocal critics of former President Obama's healthcare law. But his goal to change the country's health laws quickly fell apart.

In September 2017, just months after taking the job, Price came under intense criticism for spending more than a million dollars on private jets when many commercial flights were available. He quickly resigned.

But Price never shut down his campaign war chest. The FEC guidelines say lawmakers should shut down their accounts within six months of leaving office. But there are no requirements to do so.

What Price is polling isn't clear. Price and his campaign couldn't be reached for comment.

His former seat in Congress is now held by a Democrat, Lucy McBath, for the first time in nearly 40 years.

Karen Handel, who replaced Price and later lost to McBath, has already announced she's running for her old seat. Price has also endorsed Handel, but that endorsement came after his polling.
