Vice presidential nominee Vance to speak on border security and immigration in Valdosta

The Aug. 22 event will take place at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, and Vance is expected to speak at 1 p.m.

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Sen. J.D. Vance, the vice presidential nominee on the 2024 Republican ticket, is scheduled to deliver remarks on border security and immigration in Valdosta on Thursday, according to a campaign release.

The Aug. 22 event will take place at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, and Vance is expected to speak at 1 p.m.

This visit is part of the Republican ticket's broader campaign strategy, led by former president and current presidential nominee Donald Trump. The strategy has placed significant emphasis on border security.

Vance’s remarks are anticipated to focus on the current state of immigration enforcement and policies, specifically criticizing the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the issue.

In recent statements, Vance and Trump have voiced concerns over what they describe as an increase in undocumented immigration and its alleged impacts on American communities.

The senator will be speaking in Valdosta on Thursday-- the same day VP Harris is expected to accept her presidential nomination.

This visit comes as the Trump-Vance campaign seeks to bolster support in Georgia, a key battleground state, before the November election.

Local officials and community members are preparing for the event, and the campaign and local authorities are coordinating security and logistics.

Vance's visit to the Peach State comes as Democrats push to emphasize their vision for the future at their national convention in Chicago, Illinois. President Joe Biden and vice president and presidential nominee Kamala Harris outlined their own strategies for addressing immigration and border security.
