ATLANTA — The Carter Center on Wednesday promised a special surprise announcement for tomorrow (Thursday, August 1) for Former President Jimmy Carters' 100th birthday in October.
"Coming Tomorrow: A special birthday surprise announcement you don’t want to miss! Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy this picture of President Carter at his 90th birthday celebration," a Carter Center post on X stated.
President Carter's birthday is October 1.
The 99-year-old went into hospice care in February 2023, and has been living at home and visiting with family since then. Last November, he made one of his only public appearances during his time on hospice when he attended the memorial services for his wife Rosalynn Carter.
In February, the Carter family marked one year since the former president had entered into hospice care by saying they were "grateful for the many expressions of love they have received and the continued respect for their privacy during this time."
Back in May, President Carter's grandson Jason Carter said he was "really coming to the end, but he knows he's not in charge, and we don't know when that will be."
Jason revealed the news during an interview with 11Alive's Sunday politics show, The Georgia Vote.
"He's been in this situation now in hospice for more than a year, and it's amazing because when he first went into hospice, we thought we had a matter of days with him," Jason said.
"Obviously, he's mourned the passing of his wife of 77 years, which is just an unbelievable thing," he added.
July 7 marked 78 years since Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter had married.
