The motorcade procession will take place on Monday and go from Plains to Atlanta with several stops.

ATLANTA — The motorcade route to honor former first lady Rosalynn Carter after her passing last week is now set, The Carter Center announced Sunday.

Last Sunday, Mrs. Carter passed away at the age of 96 with family by her side. The Carter Center has announced the schedule for Rosalynn's funeral and memorial services. The funeral service will be private, but the public is invited to line the streets of Plains for a motorcade to honor and pay tribute to the former first lady.

The motorcade procession will take place on Monday and begin at 10:25 a.m. Here is the full procession route:

  • 10:25 a.m.: The Carter family motorcade will arrive at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Mrs. Carter’s remains will be transferred to a hearse, accompanied by past and present members of her U.S. Secret Service detail.
  • 10:40 a.m.: The motorcade will depart the grounds of the medical center on a public route to Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. The public is then invited to pay respects along the motorcade route.
  • 11 a.m.: The motorcade arrives at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex at Georgia Southwestern State University, where wreaths will be laid in her honor.
  • 11:15 a.m.: The motorcade departs for The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.
  • 3:15 p.m.: There will be an arrival ceremony at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta.
  • 3:30 p.m.: There will be a repose service in lobby of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
  • 6-10 p.m.: The Carter family invites members of the public to pay their respects as Mrs. Carter lies in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Parking and a shuttle will be available at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church -- located at 435 Peachtree St. NE.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will be in Georgia next week to pay respects to Rosalynn Carter.

The Bidens are expected to travel to Atlanta Tuesday, Nov. 28 to honor the former first lady as part of three days worth of events celebrating her life. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will also be in Atlanta, according to the White House.

It is unclear if the president, vice president and their partners will make an appearance at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Center or if they will only attend the tribute service. The White House said more details will follow.

A funeral procession is planned for Wednesday. The procession will arrive at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Mrs. Carter's home church and town where a service for family and invited friends will take place. Her burial will follow.

The funeral service will be private, but the public is invited to line the streets of Plains for a motorcade to honor and pay tribute to the former first lady. People can also send in condolences from wherever they are via a dedicated legacy page.
