D.C., DC — White House Historical Association unveiled the Official 2024 White House Christmas Ornament, paying homage to President Jimmy Carter's remarkable legacy.
Crafted in the shape of an anchor, the ornament serves as a symbol of Carter's service in the U.S. Navy and his impactful presidency.
- A view of the North Portico accompanied by doves which symbolize President Carter’s peacemaking efforts while in the White House, and red poinsettias recalling the colorful holiday décor at the Executive Mansion during his presidency.
- The Seawolf-class USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23) adorns the back of the ornament as Jimmy Carter is the only president to have qualified in submarines.
- A globe decorates the back center anchor to signify Carter’s life-long commitment to the environment and symbolizes Carter’s efforts to secure world peace as a president and as a private citizen.
- Embellishing the lower anchor are peanuts and their yellow blossoms, a reminder of Carter’s years as a farmer and businessman in Plains, Georgia.
The White House Historical Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Executive Mansion, said a veteran-founded business in America produces the ornaments.
“With these intricate ornaments, we are able to educate Americans about the unique and important parts of our country’s history,” said Stewart McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association. “Each ornament furthers the Association’s mission to protect, preserve, and provide access to the rich history of America’s Executive Mansion.”
Since 1981, the White House Historical Association has produced the Official White House Christmas Ornament, each highlighting a president's tenure or a significant White House anniversary. This tradition has become a cherished part of holiday celebrations for families nationwide.
