ALEXANDRIA, Va. — As Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp spoke to students at Virginia's Washington and Lee University on Saturday, he shared a warning about the 2024 presidential election.
Kemp spoke about the need for Republicans to offer up policy solutions instead of simply rallying against the opposing party.
He called a potential race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump "a race to the bottom."
"This election should be about results, not personalities. It should be about the future of our country, not a race to the bottom," Kemp said.
The governor also said a potential race between Biden and Trump would be detrimental to the future of the United States due to each candidate's age.
"Because if this general election becomes a debate about who can outlast the other 80-year-old politician, the American people will lose," Kemp said.
Kemp also urged members of the Republican party to take their focus off the 2020 election, which comes as Trump faces charges in Fulton County for allegedly trying to overturn the election results. Trump himself has pleaded not guilty.
The speech from Kemp comes roughly a month before Georgia's presidential primary -- with the primary set for March 12. The deadline to register is Feb. 12 and early voting starts Feb. 19.
