Reality TV star, daughter of Chrisleys speaks at Republican National Convention

Savannah Chrisley spoke Wednesday night.

MILWAUKEE — The daughter of reality TV couple Todd and Julie Chrisley spoke Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention.

Savannah Chrisley delivered remarks for several minutes onstage in Milwaukee. She spoke primarily about the federal tax evasion and fraud case that her parents were convicted in and are now serving prison sentences for.

Chrisley accused the Department of Justice of pursuing that prosecution for political reasons, saying it was "due to our public profile and conservative beliefs."

She said a federal prosecutor "called us the Trumps of the South" during that case.

"Hey it's fine, he meant it as an insult but let me tell ya -- I wear it as a badge of honor," Chrisley said.

She also asserted that "they accused my parents of fraud when really we were defrauded by a dishonest business partner."

The couple's accountant, Peter Tarantino, stood trial with them and was convicted of conspiracy to defraud the United States and willfully filing false tax returns, according to the Associated Press. He is serving time at a minimum security federal prison camp in Montgomery, Alabama, with a release date in August of next year.

In June, attorneys for Julie Chrisley told the Associated Press that her prison sentence will need to be redone due to a "narrow issue."

Todd Chrisley is still serving his 12-year sentence in Pensacola, Florida.

RNC Day 1 Recap

Two days after surviving an attempted assassination, Trump appeared triumphantly at RNC's opening night with a bandage over his right ear.

He eventually stood next to Vance, his running mate, listening quietly to speeches after officially being named to the Republican nominee for a seat he once sat in.

Georgia delegates shared their discernment about his VP pick.

Bruce LeVell told 11Alive that the decision probably won't have much of an impact politically. LeVell is a longtime friend of the former president and the 2016 director of the Trump campaign's National Diversity Coalition.

The shooting also highlighted, for Georgia GOP Chairman and convention delegate Josh McKoon, the importance of Trump's pick.

"It was put into more stark relief over the weekend. Because we know that something that can happen in a moment’s notice that can change our world and change our country, so, it's obviously a very important decision," McKoon said.

However, LeVell said he exchanged text messages with Trump over the weekend after the shooting and said that the former president was in good spirits considering the circumstances.

"The great news is when I talked to him (Sunday), he was in extremely great spirits and was actually cracking jokes," LeVell said. "You know, in a real cheerful way, in a funny way. He was real excited about coming to speak in Milwaukee."

According to NBC News, the focus of Day 2 is surrounding immigration. The former president is expected to make his speech at the convention on Thursday.
