Gov. Tim Walz says 'we're going to win this thing' about 2024 presidential election | Full interview

Walz said that with two days to go until election day, he is feeling confident.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — In the final days of the campaign, Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz made a final swing through Metro Atlanta. During his trip, the Minnesota Governor stopped by a campaign office in Norcross located in battleground Gwinnett county. After delivering a short speech to fire up volunteers ready to knock on doors, he spoke with 11Alive one-on-one.

Walz said that with only two days to go until election day, he is feeling confident.

“We are going to win this thing. We haven’t won it yet. We have a better ground game. We are knocking on millions of doors across the country,” Walz said.

One of the issues discussed during 11Alive’s interview with the Vice Presidential candidate was the cost of goods. When asked about a timeline for when Americans could see a drop in prices, he said it could be within a few months of taking office.

“It will take the speed of the government that moves on these things. Certainly, we’re not going to take office until Jan. 20, when we are inaugurated, so it’s going to take a few months. They are working on this right now. We’ve made progress. She’s [Vice President Harris] been part of bringing manufacturing jobs to America, protecting the ACA (Affordable Care Act), reducing healthcare cost by capping insulin. Those things are already happening and we want to continue that agenda forward,” Walz stated.

His stop comes after his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, rallied in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward on Saturday. Part of her pitch to voters surrounded women’s reproductive rights.

We asked Governor Walz how their ticket can touch moderate voters, who see policies like his “Protect Reproductive Actions” as too progressive. He signed the legislation into law in Minnesota -- giving broad protections for abortion rights in the state.

“80% of the people supported what I did, which was assuring Roe v. Wade, making sure that women make their healthcare decisions and making sure that women don’t die waiting to get care,” Walz said. “Look, this is not Donald Trump's decision to make nor mine or Kamala Harris’s to make; it's your decision, it's the people’s decision."
