ATLANTA — The Republican congressman representing Georgia's coast might be looking for a new job in 2026.
U.S. Representative Buddy Carter signaled he's considering a run for Senate in a new interview with 11Alive's Sunday politics show, The Georgia Vote.
"There's no question in my mind that the state of Georgia should not be represented by two Democratic senators," Carter said. "We need a Republican senator. We need both of them. All of our constitutional offices are Republican, so there's no reason why we should have two Democratic senators."
When asked directly whether he was contemplating a run for the Senate in 2026, Carter said: "I won't dispute that."
In a wide-ranging interview, the potential 2026 contender opened up about his vote to object to the certification of the 2020 presidential election results and his stance on climate change.
Carter also detailed his concerns about news of electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian pausing construction on a planned $5 billion plant in Morgan County.
The First District congressman also explained his views on inflation and immigration.
