Trump, vice president pick Vance to rally in Atlanta this week

The rally will be at the Georgia State University Convocation Center starting at 5 p.m.

ATLANTA — Former President Donald Trump and his Vice President pick, JD Vance, will hold a rally in Atlanta this weekend.

The rally will be at the Georgia State University Convocation Center starting at 5 p.m.

Trump will visit Atlanta within the same week as his possible presidential opponent, Kamala Harris, is expected to hold her own campaign event on Tuesday.

In a news release announcing the rally, Trump's campaign made several claims about Georgia's inflation, his opponent's stance on immigration and more.

Georgia was a battleground state in 2020 in which Joe Biden barely beat Donald Trump. Two years later, Republicans came back with Brian Kemp at the top of the ticket – turning back a list of well-funded Democrats, with the exception of U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock.

A poll released this week indicated with Harris at the top of the ticket, Georgia is once again a tossup in the presidential race against Republican Donald Trump.

Republicans say despite Trump’s loss in Georgia in 2020, the state still leans Republican and is poised to do so again in November. Meanwhile, Democrats say a win for Harris this November will require a massive effort that they are preparing for.

The former president also faces a case in the Peach State for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election after his loss to Biden. He and 18 others were indicted for violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in the state of Georgia. The case is currently in limbo as Trump's lawyers attempt to get the case dismissed after District Attorney Fani Willis was allowed to stay on the case after woes over her alleged misconduct and mishandling of funds.

The case will be heard in the appeals court in October.
