Campaign heats up in Georgia as Harris and Walz plan bus tour stops

Harris and Walz will also tape their first joint interview and attend fundraisers in New York, California, Florida, and Georgia.

GEORGIA, — Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will launch a bus tour in southern Georgia next week, marking their first joint campaign event in the state following the Democratic National Convention, according to an NBC report.

The tour aims to build momentum in the final months before the general election. Harris and Walz will also tape their first joint interview and attend fundraisers in New York, California, Florida, and Georgia.

Harris will later hold a solo rally in Savannah, her seventh visit to Georgia this year. The visit coincides with increased Republican campaigning in Georgia, including recent stops by Sen. JD Vance and former President Donald Trump.

While the exact stops for Harris and Walz's tour remain unknown, southern Georgia is home to some of the state’s largest Black communities, including Dougherty County, which has the second-highest percentage of Black residents in Georgia. The campaign has already set up field offices in predominantly Black cities like Albany and Valdosta.

“The South Georgia region is a priority for the campaign: we have nearly 50 full time staff across 7 offices in the area, including Valdosta. We have hosted more than 500 events in the region since May 31,” Harris-Walz Georgia campaign spokesperson Adelaide Bullock said to NBC.
