SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — An Atlanta man allegedly drove over 100 miles away in an attempt to take down a "giant" Confederate flag Saturday night, according to a report from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

The report stated that the 23-year-old told deputies he "doesn't agree with what it stands for." It was flying high off I-85 in South Carolina.

A deputy's report stated that the man climbed a fence and a tree to reach the flag but was unsuccessful.

The law enforcement report added he had a power tool and drill bits to get the flag down.

Deputies told WYFF that the 23-year-old's attempt was the second time the owners had unwanted visitors since raising the flag.

"So, obviously, the property owners had a heightened sense of awareness because their property was vandalized on Friday," Johnathon McGill with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office told WYFF

Deputies added in their report that there are "no trespassing" signs, and the fence is supposed to act as a barrier so no one can get through.

The deputy's report stated that after he took the flag down, he planned to drive back home to Atlanta. He now faces trespassing charges, and law enforcement has booked him into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

He was granted a $460 cash surety bond, deputies told WYFF.
