FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Georgia father tragically passed away after a crane collapsed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last week.

Fort Lauderdale Police said De La Torre had been working on the under-construction building when the collapsing crane caused him to fall, the AP reported.

According to the AP, investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said they're working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse on Friday.

"Jorge, a Georgia native, traveled to Florida for work, like many times before, but unfortunately, our family will not be blessed to see him come home safely this time," De La Torre's wife, Joselyn Farias, wrote in an online fundraiser.

De La Torre is survived by Farias and their two young children, a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old, his parents and siblings, his wife said.

"Jorge was a loving father, brother, son, and partner. He was so loved by many; he never met a stranger. He was so caring and so selfless. To have known him was a blessing, to be in his life a joy, and he will be dearly missed and forever loved," Farias wrote.

An online fundraiser has been set up to raise funds for De La Torre's funeral arrangements.

"To say I have no words is an understatement. I deeply appreciate everyone's prayers, thoughts, kind words and support during this difficult time," Farias wrote. If it is in your heart and you would like to make a donation to our family, we would sincerely appreciate it."
