WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities in Florida's 30A region are searching for a missing boater who was out on Choctawatchee Bay on Tuesday, then called his wife for help.

The boat was found, but the boater is still missing, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office in Florida.

The missing boater has not been identified.

The sheriff's office said it responded to the area of 3186 N County Highway 393 after a call came in to report a missing person. The sheriff's office deployed its Marine Unit and Drone Team, and the U.S. Coast Guard and other local agencies are involved in the search.

"Information gathered revealed the subject launched a boat from Nicks on the Bay and called his wife for help. The boat was located in the bay; however, the boater has not been located," a post on X stated. "At this time the scene, the investigation has been turned over to (Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission) and Coast Guard as a boating incident. This morning, Walton County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit is back out on the water helping aid in the search."

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who may have been out on the bay and seen anything to call 850-892-8111 or the Fish & Wildlife Commission at 850-265-3676.
